End The Israeli Occupation?
[Media Source*]
(Big News Network) Presbyterian USA is using the economic threat of divestment to end Israel's control of Palestinian territories, the Christian Science Monitor reports...
The divestment initiative, which has been gaining momentum since last year, has upset the U.S. Jewish community and some within the church ranks.
The Presbyterian Church USA is attempting to use it's financial influence (as well as contacts) in order to bring about an end to the "Israeli Occupation." The Presbyterian's have also formed a committee which has accused several high profile companies of encouraging conflict within the middle east.
"The use of economic leverage doesn't bring Israelis or Palestinians one bit closer to peace, and only poisons the well for interfaith relations here," said Ethan Felson with the Jewish Council for Public Affairs.
It is ironic that a denomination whose sole existence was determined by a Jewish man, (i.e. Jesus Christ) would oppose the Jewish nation as in a time of great economic need. It is unclear whether or not the church leadership actually reads their holy text concerning the treatment of Jews, but if they continue in the direction of anti-Zionism, (without a just cause) they might as well take their place historically alongside of every organized group that has advocated Israel's destruction.
