Shiites Uniting Politically
[Media Source*]
It looks like the Shiite Muslims are uniting together and taking advantage of their 60% majority (population wise) in Iraq. A Shiite Cleric announced a list of 228 approved candidates from which the Shitte's can vote upon. This is backed by the leading Shiite Cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani and will most certainly put the Shiites at the helm of Iraq for the first time since the fall of Saddam.

People walk past a poster of Shiite cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani in Baghdad, Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004. al-Sistani issued a fatwa, or religious rulling, in mid-October to encourage people to vote in Iraq's upcoming elections.
But not everyone on the list is Shiite. This list includes Kurds and Sunni's as well. Despite this "inclusiveness" the intent of the list is to promote Shiite's into office. An exerpt from ABC News (see source link above) goes on to explain:
The coalition, called the United Iraqi Alliance, includes two major Shiite political parties the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution and the Islamic Dawa Party and the Iraqi National Congress, led by former exile and one-time Pentagon favorite Ahmad Chalabi, Dawa party official Ali al-Adeeb told a news conference.
Also on the list were independent Sunni Muslims and Kurds.
Al-Sistani, an Iranian-born cleric, has been working to unite Iraq's majority Shiites ahead of the vote to ensure victory, as well as include representatives from Iraq's other diverse communities.
Things look good for the Shiite. Their time in history has come and it looks like they will not be denied. Ironic that one of the group's that has suffered the most in Iraq will now be calling the shots of the future nation. Selah.
