Liberals Strategize How To Counter Religious Right
[Media Source*] (Hat Tip: The Black Kettle)
NEW YORK -- Secular humanists and leftist activists convened here over the weekend to strategize how to counter what they contend is a growing political threat from Christian conservatives...
"The religious right now has an unprecedented influence on American politics and policy," said Ralph White, co-founder of the Open Center, a New York City institution focused on holistic learning. "It is incumbent upon all of us to understand as precisely as possible its aims, methods, beliefs, theology and psychology."
This group was co-sponsored by the People for the American Way, an organization that would like to exterminate religious expression from every public corner of life. Groups like these might start off by reading that old book many Christians read called "the Bible," which may help understand where many of these "religious fanatics" (whatever) are getting their worldview from. The fact that this has to be pointed out shows how naive groups like these have become.
"This may be the darkest time in our history," said Bob Edgar, general secretary of the left-leaning National Council of Churches and former six-term Democratic congressman from Pennsylvania. "The religious right have been systematically working at this for 40 years. The question is, where is the religious left?"
When the religious left grasps with such issues such as homosexuality and abortion according to a biblical perspective, then perhaps they may actually gain some clout to what they have to say regarding spiritual issues. The fact that they fight against some of the core tenets of the faith and still claim their Christian label tends to put them in a bad light. If the left would either leave the faith or believe in what they claim they are affiliated with, then they would find read ears to listen to them.
If these other groups desire to "get in touch" with the conservative opposition, then my suggestion would be for them to perhaps download the bible and spend some time reading through it's passages. If not, they will continue to be out of step with the faithful and also out in "left field" on moral issues.
