Prime Minister Ariel Sharon met a group of top American Evangelical Christians who are on a visit to Israel promoting tourism. The delegation included Jay Sekulow, a high profile Messianic Jew who hosts a daily talk show on some 550 stations.
Ariel Sharon did not know that Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel for the American Law and Justice Center (a Christian version of the ACLU) was one of the eight evangelical figures at the event. The Prime Minister met with the group, to bolster support amongst those who favor of Israel, notably many evangelical Christians and Republicans.
"These are hard-core Republicans very supportive of Israel," the official [of Ariel Sharon] said. "When they come here, we don't ask what their religion is. The man [Jay Sekulow] is willing to do a lot for the state of Israel."
The overall purpose of the meeting was to court the Evangelical Christian's who have continued to visit Israel despite the violence that threatens to assault the region. This new "market" is perhaps Israel's staunchest ally financially and politically, demonstrating support of Israel throughout the fifty states as well as around the world.
