Beauty Becoming The Beast?
[Media Source*]
An alarming number of American girls, some as young as 9, are using bodybuilding steroids — not necessarily to get an edge on the playing field, but to get the toned, sculpted look of models and movie stars, experts say.
Apparently this is at an all time high and many girls are using steroids for things ranging from bigger muscles on the field (slightly) to trimming down themselves. Ironically, it appears vanity is the same reason that many guys use it as well, although their is no excuse for messing with a drug that can potentially shorten ones life.
It appears that Oregon is having some problems with this as well, with up to two thirds of high school girls (in a survey) admitting to trying this drug as well as riskier ones in order to get thin. What they don't realize is that steroids can make the most beautiful girl into a "beast."
In teenage girls, the side effects from taking male sex hormones can include severe acne, smaller breasts, deeper voice, irregular periods, excess facial and body hair, depression, paranoia and the fits of anger dubbed "roid rage." Steroids also carry higher risks of heart attack, stroke and some forms of cancer.
Apparently many of these girls are getting it from their relatives and friends, as well as the internet and black market. Ladies using the drug would be advised to stop and seek help. For more information regarding this issue, visit Steroid Abuse.org.
