Human Cloning License
[Media Source*] If you want one, just go to England! It seems that one of their own, Ian Wilmut has been granted a cloning license when it comes to humans. You may remember him for the cloned sheep Dolly, although he doesn't exactly want to use his "new found powers" to clone people. Instead, he wants to use is new ability for human stem cell research in order to "save lives" by destroying them. I wonder what the world would think if I applied the same method towards a new car, a crisp dollar bill, or even a new pet? Selah!

Professor Ian Wilmut speaks during a news conference in Edinburgh, February 8, 2005. Wilmut, the scientist who created Dolly the sheep, the world's first cloned mammal, was granted a license Tuesday to clone human embryos for medical research. Wilmut plans to obtain stem cells for research into Motor Neurone Disease(MND), a procedure that divides the medical world along ethical lines.
"Our aim will be to generate stem cells purely for research purposes," Wilmut said in a statement. "This is not reproductive cloning in any way." Human reproductive cloning is illegal in Britain but therapeutic cloning, creating embryos as a source of stem cells to cure diseases, is allowed on an approved basis.
Stem cells are the body's master cells. Those from days-old embryos have the ability to form any kind of tissue and scientists are working to learn how to manipulate them for transplants to treat diseases ranging from diabetes to cancer and MND.
Hmm...although the Brits are for it (along with the Governator) Mr. Prez doesn't seem impressed with it's potential dangers or opportunities...depending on you point of view. I am personally for Stem Cell research...just as long as it does not involve human embryo's (something we all were once boys and girls) being destroyed in the process.
