Who Will Get Tough With Iran?

[Media Source*]

(Post Updated at 5:54 p.m., Hat Tip: Gateway Pundit)

VIENNA (Reuters) - The U.N. nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency, confirmed on Monday that Iran has restarted nuclear activities that had been mothballed under a deal with the European Union's three biggest powers.

"IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei informed members of the (IAEA) board of governors that Iran today started to feed uranium ore concentrate into the first part of the process line at the uranium conversion facility," it said in a statement.

With the United States delegating the potential Persian nuclear crisis over to Europe, Iran it seems has disregarded the world's viewpoint over it's nuclear activities. Europe, realizing that they are losing control over the situation are threatening to bring Iran before the United Nations. But with nothing more than paper and words backing the their threats, Iran is calling the world's bluff by publically insisting that it's nuclear activity is only for "peaceful" means.

(EU Observer) The UK, France and Germany are pushing for some tough talk on Iran at a meeting of the UN's nuclear watchdog board in Vienna on Tuesday (9 August) after Tehran over the weekend rejected an EU deal on its nuclear programme...

"The European proposals are unacceptable to the Islamic Republic of Iran, they provide no guarantees for Iran's interests and are contrary to the Non-Proliferation Treaty," foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi said. [Source*]

With it's new President in office Iran has become increasingly brazen about it's activities, defying the world not only in regards to it's "peaceful pursuit" of nuclear technology but also with its lack of consideration for human rights.

(Kurdish Media News) Protection of human rights has deteriorated rapidly as protests and civil unrest in the cities of Saqiz, Sine, Mahabad, Serdesht, Piranshar, Meriwan, Shino, Baneh, Divan and Dareh have been met by excessive force by state security forces, plainclothes agents and paramilitary Islamic vigilantes...

Human rights violations reported have included the gunning down of civilians by military helicopter, the harassment and imprisonment of journalists and human rights defenders, indiscriminate arrests of civilians including children, the torture or ill-treatment of detained Kurdish protestors, and the closure of two newspapers.[Source*]

Despite the violations of it's nuclear agreements in the past as well as the present humanitarian situation no major power in the region (besides Israel and the United States) has threatened real consequences towards Iran when it comes to halting it's current affairs. If the world body does not becomes serious about the threat of an Iranian state led by a leader who advocates terrorism (especially against the United States and Israel) then the West will face a future more serious than what they faced several years ago on 9/11.
